A softer departure from last year’s bold pink pick, Peach Fuzz is a warm and comforting color that evokes feelings of kindness and tenderness, while also being “a quietly sophisticated and contemporary peach with depth whose gentle lightness is understated but impactful.” While 2023’s Viva Magenta sought to “celebrate coming out of the malaise of the last year”, Pantone’s 25th anniversary pick aims to reflect the “need for some quiet, some peace, some respite”.
Pantone’s Color of the Year was initially created in 1999 as a way to “engage the design community and color enthusiasts around the world in a conversation around color”. Since then, Pantone’s pick has become highly anticipated by designers, creatives, and trendsetters in just about every industry.
According to Vice President Laurie Pressman, Pantone finds their color of the year by combing over trends from a variety of sectors across industries, including movies, art, fashion, design, travel, and more. Their selection is made using a combination of forecasting tools, color psychology research, and other sources to anticipate upcoming trends, and after 25 years of making culturally relevant predictions, Pantone’s Color of the Year selection is now recognized across just about every design or creative sector as the preeminent color trend to follow.
Picking Peach Fuzz
Peach Fuzz is a warm, light orangey–pink hue that Jeremy Allen, art director for the New York Times Style Desk, calls a “rediscovered neutral”. Pantone describes it as a “velvety gentle peach” with an “all-embracing spirit [that] enriches heart, mind, and body”.
